Had our honeymoon here 20 years ago. Dont worry, this review is not going to be that old. We are old but this review is really about our current stay. I should add that we have stayed here a few other times but all of these times were before yelp. Ok. Still with me? Here comes the review of our stay for our 20th anniversary: Great place. Breakfast was included in the price and was awesome. Lots of fresh and ripe fruit, eggs, potatoes, bacon, ham, pancakes, bread, cereals, Danishes, yogurt, and much more. They have a canoe and kayak to rent. Also DVDs to borrow and play on your tv. A hot tub and lawn area with chairs out front. Room included a gorgeous patio and jacuzzi tub. It was all well maintained and clean. Friendly staff were super helpful in keeping us entertained. Hope to be back for our 30th and 40th maybe even 50th anniversaries as well.

Room: 3 stars Food: 5 stars The room we originally booked wasn't faced with the lake but had a nicer bathroom with a jacuzzi and a functional electric fireplace. The staff talked us into switching to a more expensive room by the lake, which indeed has a nice lake view but the bathroom was a bit out of shape - just a small shower place and a lousy shower head, and an out-of-order fireplace. We enjoyed a nice afternoon on the balcony watching the sunset. However, we should have had a better room for the money we paid for. After the owner's son came over to fix the fireplace in vain, the owner showed up shortly to help. Figuring that the fireplace was irreparable, the son kept asking the owner to move us to another room but the owner didn't agree. It's just an electric fireplace, no big deal, but considering that we tipped them big time at dinner, it's disappointing that they left only saying having a good night. The staff was friendly and helpful. We requested a mini fridge and it was delivered shortly. Dinner at their restaurant was the highlight of our stay there. We expected ok food at a remote place like this, but - wow, food was heavenly delicious. Two appetizers we had - asparagus and mussels - knocked our socks off. Caesar salad couldn't be more fresh. The parmesan crisp on the side was unforgettably good. The entrees - roasted chicken and halibut - were unbelievably delicious. Next time I'm stopping by is for the food. Compliments to the chef!

we went late august- weather was perfect! sat outside at the restaurant by the water- had 3 beers, a salad with shrimp, a burger and another standard salad with no meat. the food came in a plastic TOGO container and we were starving bec it was portioned incorrectly, so we ordered 2 more kids grilled cheeses. THE SALAD WITH SHRIMP WAS OVER 20$. if your going to charge me over 20$ for a few pieces of shrimp (that were undercooked) and some iceberg lettuce it better be on a plate, with a metal fork, and a side of bread. will not eat there again because of this, but would go back for drinks.

Review for the bar only. We had beers and lobster sliders overlooking the lake and it was bliss. Our 16 month old played happily in the garden (need to keep an eye out though as it's quite a drop to the harbor). The lobster sliders were buttery bliss. Beautiful and quite remote location.

I was extremely disappointed with our meal here. Whatever you do, DO NOT BRING YOUNG KIDS. It was like we had completely inconvenienced them by having a 4 year old and 15 mo old. The menu was limiting and the food was 'eh'. When we ordered the kids something the eat, before we even ordered drinks, it still didn't come out until the rest of our meals. The service was just terrible. Even our food was slow to come out. The server wasn't personable and we overall just felt like we weren't welcome.

The accommodations for a B&B are standard and nice. We had a room facing the lake with an enclosed private balcony. What I loved is the whole experience of the inn and the food and the area. The restaurant is first class and the breakfast is one of the best breakfasts I have ever eaten. We ate four meals here over our two day stay and everything was top drawer. Nothing seemed over- processed or frozen. There is not a whole lot to do on the island really. It is remote and just lovely. The drive and the views are out of a Keats poem. We stayed here and drove to the surrounding historical sites.

What a great place to stay. It is worth getting up early to watch the sunrise over lake Champlain. the food at the inn was great the people are not super friendly there typical new englanders give you the information and that's that.. But it is worth staying it is soooooo nice there......

We spent the night here on a road trip across Vermont enroute to Montreal. The room was very historic, but a bit dank and cold. Across the street, however, is the main house, which was brightly lit and had a very nice restaurant. The pool and swim areas were nice, and we enjoyed sitting in the outdoor lakeside hot tub on a cool fall evening. The location on the shores of the lake make this a great vacation stop if passing through or traveling along the lake.

My wife and I like to stay here for last minute weekend getaways. Our room overlooking the lake was awesome and the hammock was an excellent touch. Staff and breakfast was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Nice location, good restaurant, just don't drink the local beer on tap! ECH!

This place holds a special place in my heart. The muffins at breakfast are still warm and fresh; can't have just one. The food is simple but delicious and well prepared. The rooms are adorable, clean and comfortable; each one is different and have a country-cozy character. If you can, stay in a room with a balcony, the evenings are best spent there before bed. Morning tea and yoga stretches on the balcony with views on the lake are pretty amazing too. The lakeside views are wonderful, my favorite time there is summer and early fall. Just go there.

We only stopped in for a drink, but we will definitely be back in the future to try out the dining experience. They had seating underneath a tent, of just outdoors, and some lounge chairs along the distance of the pier. We had piña coladas, which hit the spot after an afternoon in the sun. Because of the outdoor seating, we were able to keep our dog with us. They're located on a nice quiet part of the waterfront. This is an awesome stop after a day of paddling / kayaking.

We enjoyed a long weekend at the North Hero House. The lodging was nice & comfortable. The view is breathtaking! We spent several evenings sitting by the lake enjoying a glass of wine at the Pier Bar. Breakfast & dinner were both excellent! We rented bikes at the general store & enjoyed a long bike ride around the lake. Another day we went for a hike in a state park nearby. It was a great weekend!

This is the kind of place that you would go out of your way to try to visit. It's away from the hustle and bustle. You would also think that you would be away from the lack of personal attention of the larger chain hotels. As a small B & B, I imagined that the owners/managers would be empathetic to life situations that their guests might run into. Apparently that is not the case. As a business owner myself, I always go out of my way not to look at my customers as "one time" customers, but rather, "lifetime" customers. You do this by making sure you have gone above and beyond to make them happy and exceeding their expectations certainly helps. Granted, there are always a few self entitled customers that simply make this impossible to do because their requests are just plain ridiculous. But I'd like to think I am not one of them. The owner, Walt Blasberg, apparently doesn't look at things the same as me. A "one time" customer is just fine by him. I am not in the B & B business. Nor am I telling Walt how to run his business. I'm sure there are reasons that certain policies are in place and that there have been situations that have warranted for them to exist. Sometimes it's just necessary to understand the "spirit" of why certain policies exist and breathe a little humanity into them. My gripe is with the fact that our Airline delayed our outgoing flight from LA and caused us to miss our connecting flight into Burlington. We arrived a day later than our reservation was for. As soon as I knew our flight was delayed I called and left a message on their answering service letting them know that they could give our rooms (we were traveling with extended family and they had a room as well) to someone else for the day. I called two more times after my original message and still no one picked up the phone. Still, I thought it was reasonable to assume that the managers/owners would understand our situation and not charge us for the 1st night that we had the reservation for. Boy was I wrong. They claim they returned my call but they never did. Their attempt to make it OK was to not charge us for an extra person in the room. I'm sorry but that just missed the mark completely. In my opinion, it didn't matter what the cancellation policy was - never mind that I have yet to see it. It was a reasonable request to not get charged for the 1st night of my 3 night stay due to circumstances that were out of my control. Obviously it was not their fault either, but at this point, it's about doing what is right. Sometimes people just don't care about what's right anymore. They just care about their bank accounts. The North Hero House Inn & Restaurant is apparently no exception. If a small business doesn't hold itself accountable to a higher standard of customer satisfaction than big business - they are doomed. If you read on, you will find other complaints about similar situations with this B & B on YELP. Sad to say I did not have an isolated situation. It sounds like it's par for the course for how they do business. Sure they got nearly $2000 out of my family on this trip. But that is all they will ever see. Hopefully others will read this review and adjust their travel plans accordingly.

The food, service, and atmosphere were outstanding. We shared the flat iron steak, seafood linguini, and had a lovely homemade s'mores tort. I would certainly recommend the north hero house for special occasions as it is a special place.

A mixed review. We stayed three nights at the inn, and had dinner at the restaurant one time. The inn was fine, but I was a little disappointed that not only did I reserve many months in advance and spoke with someone on the phone, that we got the room in our building (Southwind) that was on the street side and not the lakeside. I would really have appreciated some advice on which room was the best in the building or maybe I would have considered a different building. The very fun looking Pier Bar was closed during our stay--we were not thrilled with that either. At the time we made the reservation, it looked as if the Pier Bar was open more hours and days. They have since changed the website to say that it's only open Thurs-Sundays. The room was clean and comfy, however. The main drawback was a weak shower spray and a rather delicate toilet. We enjoyed the hot tub and the lake. Breakfast was included, very yummy and generous. As for the dinner, we liked the apps and most of the food, although the lamb was very fatty. The service was maddeningly slow and by the time our entrees arrived, we were all out of sorts. Another Yelp reviewer had this experience, too. Would I go back--maybe.

Unfortunate evening. We drove over one hour to catch the sunset while having a nice dinner. Saw good reviews about this restaurant so chose this one over a couple others on the island. The appetizer started out decent, and our waitress was personable. Then 2 hours later, our main course still hadn't arrived! We were very polite, asking if our food would be ready soon since we needed to be somewhere soon. The waitress said it would be right out. Since we had waited so long, we asked for the food to-go. Over 20 min later, the food finally came out! They had the nerve to still charge us for the appetizer (which I wasn't even a big fan of - their version of fried green tomatoes), but gave us our entrees for free. We will not be going back and do not recommend this place!

This review is for the restaurant only, not the inn. We ate in the dining room of the North Hero House, not the Pub or Bar & Grill. The menu is fairly traditional, not terribly imaginative, but the food is superbly prepared and very attractively presented and the service we received was excellent. We had the flat-iron steak and the haddock and chips. Both were very good, as was the Caprese salad, though it was perhaps a bit skimpy for the price. NHH is a little pricey, but not unreasonable. We also appreciated that the chairs were comfortable and the noise level in the restaurant was fairly low. We had a very enjoyable dinner and would certainly go back again.

There are minimal drinks and appetizers at the bar/restaurant on the pier. They do not have a single gluten free option on the menu and are not able to modify items to be gluten free. The staff was okay but overall I was disappointed. The drinks were also just okay.

Hate to write bad reviews especially for a place that I've never even visited BUT it's my only re-course....I'd give 0 stars if I could. My friend got married in VT this past Labor Day and chose North Hero as the primary hotel for guests to stay. I made my reservation in April and was told that all cancellations had to be made at least a month in advance and even then a $50 charge would be incurred. I get it, it's Labor Day in new England and it's a big money maker, no problem it's not like I'm going to miss one of my best friends wedding even if I'm coming from the other side of the country. Fast forward to the day I'm flying out, I have to have an emergency outpatient procedure and unable to fly. Ok, so it sucks I'm missing my friends wedding, let's add insult to injury. Call the hotel, explain the situation and of course they say, "Sorry nothing we can do with such short notice you still have to pay the full amount of $390." But wait, I can provide a note from my Dr. where he's telling me there's no way I can fly. "No I'm sorry we won't accept a note form Dr. But, if someone comes and we can give your room away we'll credit your account. We'll give you a call if it happens" Of course no call and my card was charged. Now I don't know if they were able to give the room away but in my experience usually the main hotel for a wedding has a waiting a list form the wedding guests let alone on a holiday weekend. It's just frustrating because rather than accepting that sometimes life throws out bad situations and helping me out they decided they'd rather be greedy. It's bad enough I missed my friends wedding but I'm out $400 for the hotel. Oddly enough the airlines were more compassionate. So I'd say based on the other reviews you should stay here if you have no problem giving money to compassionless people. Not much of a hero here, pun entirely intended.

Stayed here for a long weekend before Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time. Stayed in one of the rooms overlooking the lake with a balcony. TOTALLY awesome sunrises. Even though it was off season, had an absolutely wonderful time and would definitely come back.

I never stayed at the Inn, but I ate at the restaurant twice this year and it was delicious! It is about 45 minutes from Burlington, but it was worth the trip. The location is tough to beat with a beautiful view of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains. I ordered from the price fixed menu and it came with 3 courses for around $30, which is a great deal for high quality food in the Burlington area. I had steak both times I went and it was cooked perfectly to my liking and bursting with flavor. It was served with lightly seasoned vegetables and mashed potatoes. The food wasn't over seasoned or greasy and the waitress was friendly and attentive. I took my girlfriend there when she was visiting and she said it was one of the best dinners she ever had! Ask to be seated in the porch to ensure the best view.
